Abdominal ice massage lowers blood sugar and improves heart function in healthy people
A single 20-minute ice massage on the abdomen lowers blood sugar and improves cardiovascular function in healthy people. Further studies with patients are needed to confirm effectiveness.

Abdominal ice massage lowers blood sugar and improves heart function in healthy people
A new study has provided interesting insights into the effects of ice massage on the stomach in healthy people. Ice massage is often used to treat certain chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Still, there is little evidence on how such ice massage affects blood sugar levels and cardiovascular function. This study examined exactly this and produced remarkable results.
Researchers conducted an experiment with 50 healthy volunteers who underwent a 20-minute ice massage on their stomachs. They measured important health parameters, such as blood sugar levels and various cardiovascular functions, both before and after treatment. This included blood pressure, pulse rate and other specialized measurements that represent heart function.
A key finding of this study was that ice massage led to an improvement in cardiovascular function immediately after treatment. An additional drop in blood sugar levels was recorded 20 minutes after treatment. Amazingly, participants reported no negative side effects during or after the massage.
These findings could potentially lead to changes in the way certain health interventions are delivered, particularly physical therapy and possibly the treatment of diabetes. However, further research is needed, particularly studies with larger numbers of participants and longer follow-up periods, to consolidate these results and verify their applicability to patients with diabetes.
Basic terms and concepts
To better understand the significance of this study, I will explain some of the terms used:
Abbreviations:
- BGL: Blutzuckerspiegel
- SBP: Systolischer Blutdruck
- DBP: Diastolischer Blutdruck
- PR: Pulsrate
- MAP: Mittlerer arterieller Druck
- RPP: Rate Pressure Product
- Do-P: Double Product
Influence of ice massage on cardiovascular functions and blood sugar levels
The present study investigates the effect of abdominal ice massage on blood glucose levels (BGL) and cardiovascular functions in healthy individuals. The relevance of this study lies in the insufficient evidence to date on the role of ice massage in the treatment of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
methodology
- Studiendesign: Ein-Gruppen-Vorher-Nachher-Experiment
- Teilnehmer: 50 gesunde Freiwillige (27 Frauen, 23 Männer) im Alter von 24,72 ± 5,48 Jahren
- Intervention: Eine 20-minütige Eismassage des Abdomens
- Messungen: Blutzuckerspiegel (BGL) und kardiovaskuläre Parameter (systolischer Blutdruck [SBP], diastolischer Blutdruck [DBP], Pulsfrequenz [PR], Pulsdruck, mittlerer arterieller Druck [MAP], Rate Pressure Product [RPP], Double Product [Do-P])
- Zeitpunkte der Messungen: Vor der Intervention, unmittelbar danach und 20 Minuten nach der Intervention
Results
| parameter | Change after the intervention | Change 20 minutes after the intervention |
|---|---|---|
| Pulse rate (PR) | Significant reduction | Significant reduction |
| Rate Pressure Product (RPP) | Significant reduction | Significant reduction |
| Double Product (Do-P) | Significant reduction | Significant reduction |
| Blood sugar level (BGL) | – | Significant reduction |
| Systolic blood pressure (SBP) | – | Significant reduction |
| Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) | – | Significant reduction |
| Mean arterial pressure (MAP) | – | Significant reduction |
The results show that ice massage leads to an improvement in cardiovascular functions immediately after use. After 20 minutes, a significant reduction in blood sugar levels was also observed. None of the subjects reported any side effects during or after the intervention.
conclusion
Abdominal ice massage is an effective measure for short-term improvement of cardiovascular functions and reduction of blood sugar levels in healthy subjects. However, for clinical application and to further validate the results, long-term randomized controlled trials with patients, especially with diabetes, and a larger sample are required.
